"Mutternal Instincts" is the twenty-fifth episode of season 1. It first aired January 21st, 2012 in the US.
Lucky and the gang are dumbfounded when they find out that Cookie has been trying to prevent a pup from getting adopted.
Plot[]
Cookie has been feeling ignored lately due to her family's busy schedule. When the D7, a meeting for the leaders of the international Pound Puppies organization, is approaches, a group of puppies arrives at the pound. Cookie grows close to the runt of the litter, whom she names Cupcake. She grows attached to Cookie as well, to the point of calling her "Cookie mommy". When the children of the local school come to adopt the puppies, Cookie prevents Cupcake's adoption which shocks the gang.

- The episode title is a pun to the 2005 Fox Broadcasting Company show "Killer Instinct", and is a pun to the 1992 film "Basic Instinct".
